About us

At FareShare Greater Manchester, we are on a mission to tackle food poverty and reduce food waste across our city-region and beyond.

As the leading food redistribution charity, serving Greater Manchester, High Peak and East Cheshire, we rescue surplus food from the food industry and ensure it reaches local charities, schools, and community groups, providing vital meals to those who need them most. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to create a future where good food is never wasted, and no one goes hungry. But we can’t do it alone. Whether you choose to volunteer, make a donation, or, as a food business contributing surplus food, your support is invaluable in the fight against hunger.

Every action, big or small, helps us build a stronger, more resilient community where everyone has access to nutritious meals. Join us in making a difference today – because together, we can create a Greater Manchester where nutritious, quality food is used to feed people and doesn’t go to waste.

Back in 2008, our parent organisation, EMERGE, partnered with FareShare UK in order to run the Greater Manchester ‘regional centre’.

We joined a network of independent charities who, like EMERGE, redistribute surplus in-date food to community groups, schools and voluntary sector bodies who use food to help alleviate poverty. By 2018, we were redistributing nearly 1,500 tonnes of food to 220 ‘Community Food Members’.

In 2024, that had increased to 2,000 tonnes of food redistributed to 290 beneficiary organisations – the equivalent of almost 4.8 million meals.
