About us

Our impact

Between 1 April 2024 and 31st March 2025, we redistributed 2,000 tonnes of good-to-eat surplus food.

In real terms, that’s the equivalent of 4.72 million meals (based on 423g per average meal) which went to more than 250 different charities and community groups across Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and High Peak. We were only able to do that thanks to our brilliant volunteers who donated 23,687 hours of their time to our FareShare Greater Manchester operation.

Our Mission

Our Mission

1.

Support charities

FareShare Greater Manchester supports over 250 organisations with quality, in-date surplus food. Our lovely drivers are out on the road 5 days a week delivering food to our wonderful charities and community groups from Wigan to Macclesfield, Glossop to Rochdale and all over Greater Manchester who are doing amazing and much needed work in our local community providing food and additional support to those who need it most. We believe that no good food should go to waste it should go to those that need it most.

“Without FareShare, I wouldn’t be able to do this project and make it last as long as I have. The staff at FareShare really look after me, they help me plan and think ahead so it means I’m able to use lots of surplus that FareShare has.” Kala Mandviwala – Tameside Meals Project

2.

Support individuals

FareShare Greater Manchester have been supporting job- seeking volunteer learners make positive steps to getting into work for over 30 years. We run free training programmes with emphasis on employability skills, the transferrable skills needed for getting into work.

Practical work experience is combined with e-learning and one to one support as learners progress on their personal plan to build a stand out CV and prepare for a successful interview and beyond.

“Everyone I met and worked with was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable.  I learnt a lot about new things and even more about myself.  It is an experience I would not trade for the world” – Daisy, Give & Gain programme graduate.

3.

Support the environment

Every year in the UK over 4 million tonnes of good to eat surplus food goes to waste in the UK food industry, at the same time millions are struggling to afford to put a meal on the table.

For every tonne of surplus food FareShare redistributes, it prevents the waste of 2 tonnes of CO2e and 2.66 million litres of water.

FareShare helps the environment by reducing food waste and preventing the waste of CO2e emissions and water embedded in the food.
