Fundraising ideas

On your own, with friends or work colleagues, we’ve got some great fundraising ideas to get you started on how to fundraise for charity.

We currently receive no statutory funding and rely entirely on income-generation, donations and grants to keep doing the vital work we do. Parts of Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and High Peak have pockets of with some of the highest rates of poverty in the UK, so we have much more work to do. Every £1 you fundraise for us helps us to deliver 4 more meals.

Manchester has the third highest rate for poverty in the UK, so we still have plenty more work to do.  Every £1 you fundraise for us helps us to deliver 4 more meals.

Get active!

  • Run/cycle/swim or walk 5 or 10k – Run/cycle/swim or walk 1km each day for 5 or 10 days or do the whole distance in one go!
  • Burpees Challenge – commit to 30/50/100 burpees daily for a month.
  • Danceathon – Choose some funky tunes, get your friends together and boogie around the clock non-stop!
  • 10,000 step challenge – walk 10,000 steps in a day, or set a bigger goal of 100,000 steps over a longer period of time.
  • A month of workouts – Either on your own or with friends, try a different type of physical activity every day for a month from aerobics to Zumba.
  • 24 hour football challenge – Get your mates together to keep a kick-about going for 24 hours (with subs if you need a rest).

Get cooking!

  • Month-long veg pledge – go vegetarian or vegan for a month and ask for sponsorship based on your commitment to the cause.
  • Host a coffee morning or afternoon tea – ask people to drop in and donate for a cake and a cuppa.
  • Cookathon – why not commit to cooking for a whole day focusing on meals that could be made from surplus food and then be sold to raise funds at the end?
  • Cupcake Bake-off – compete with friends or colleagues to bake the tastiest batch of cupcakes, then sell them to raise money.

Get creative!

  • Funky Fashion – host a theme day at work where everyone wears a particular item of clothing / colour (or even fancy dress as a type of food) and take a collection from the participants.
  • Host a sponsored gaming livestream – team up with gaming friends for a day-long livestream and get sponsorship for your efforts.
  • Month-long abstinence challenge – is there something you can give up for a month? Chocolate? Alcohol? Cheese? Give up your favourite treat for a month and ask people to sponsor you.
  • Singathon – are you a fan of singing along to the radio? How about a day-long sing-song? Get sponsored for singing everything you say for a whole day – no talking allowed?
  • Sponsored silence – do the opposite of the last idea and keep quiet for a whole day – or even have a sponsored hour-long silence during your working day for a whole month.
  • Digital Detox – can you manage without your social media for a whole month? Or ditch your phone entirely for a day (except for emergencies). If this is going to be hard for you – you may find your friends and family digging deep to support your challenge!
  • Get quizzing – how about hosting a ‘pub quiz’ with your friends and family? You could charge a fee for each team to enter and maybe even have a raffle to raise extra funds at the same time?
